Ashford International Hotel Awarded Silver for Going Green Wednesday 12th August 2009
QHotels Ashford International Hotel is celebrating after achieving silver accreditation within the Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS).
GTBS, the leading green tourism certification scheme in the UK, assesses hotels against a rigorous set of criteria that includes energy and water efficiency, waste management, environmental impact, biodiversity and innovation.
In a period of just three months, the Kent based hotel was awarded 76% - resulting in a silver grade, one of nine properties within the group to achieve this level. The score placed the Ashford International Hotel just 4% from a gold standard status and represents the highest score within QHotels.
Andrea Nicholas, Manager of the Green Tourism Business Scheme comments: “It was evident that the Ashford International Hotel was extremely committed and enthusiastic, not just in gaining an award, but aiming ultimately for a gold standard. Guests should feel assured that by choosing QHotels they are helping to support a genuinely environmentally focused hotel chain”.
Deirdre Billing, General Manager of the Ashford International Hotel commented: “We are delighted to have been awarded such an excellent environmental award, which demonstrates we are a clear green choice for our business and leisure guests. The accreditation reflects our commitment to corporate social responsibility and is a major milestone in our environmental journey”.
Over the next year QHotels will be working towards other CSR developments including the selection of a company nominated charity for 2010 and a group wide carbon offsetting scheme.
