Glow, Bluewater reaches another milestone Monday 29th November 2010
Bluewater has reached two more key milestones in the development of Glow, Bluewater, the purpose-built events and exhibition space that opens at the end of 2011.
Paul Salloway, aged 26, is the 100th person in one month to be currently working on-site for Glow, Bluewater. In addition, Linda Etheridge from Stone, Dartford, is the 101st person to be employed on the construction of the events venue via The Learning Shop.
These employment milestones were marked by a presentation ceremony held at The Learning Shop. Andrew Parkinson, Bluewater’s General Manager, and Ann Komzolik, Director of Enterprise at The Learning Shop, in association with North West Kent College, presented specially-created certificates to Paul and Linda.
Paul is employed by Lakesmere, Glow, Bluewater's roofing contractor, and has spent three years working for the company. His previous experience includes the Olympic Park Aquatics Centre and he is currently studying for an NVQ3.
Linda works for BAM Construction at the venue, and has participated in The Learning Shop’s programme targeting the long-term unemployed. Linda is responsible for Facilities Management on-site and is progressing on to a level two qualification.
Commenting on becoming the 101st person to be employed via the Learning Shop on the construction of the venue, Linda said: “Getting a job at Bluewater has made a big difference to me and my family. The Learning Shop has been fantastic in helping me complete application forms, giving me advice for interviews, and for keeping me motivated and positive through what has been a very difficult time.”
Andrew Parkinson, Bluewater’s general manager, added: “Creating opportunities for the local community, in particular employment and training, is a key element in the successful creation of Glow, Bluewater. By working in partnership with both the Learning Shop and the construction team, led by BAM, we are proud to be creating immediate, tangible and significant benefits for the community.”
